As 2024 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the films that entertained me the most this year. These aren’t necessarily the best films of the year, nor have I watched everything that released—because, let’s be honest, that’s an impossible task. But these are the movies that I personally loved, the ones that stayed with me long after the credits rolled.

So, without ranking them (because comparing different genres is unfair), here are my favourite films of 2024!

Transformers One – A Stunning Animated Surprise

The Transformers franchise has been hit-or-miss over the years, but Transformers One took me by surprise. This animated spectacle is easily the best Transformers film in a long time. It’s packed with humor, breathtaking animation, thrilling action, and a fantastic voice cast. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the series, this is the perfect entry point.

Sector 36 – A Hard-Hitting Netflix Original

This one isn’t what you’d call “entertaining” in the traditional sense, but it’s an absolute must-watch. Sector 36 is gut-wrenching and intense, with Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal delivering powerhouse performances. Deepak, in particular, sets a new benchmark. I’ve done a detailed review of this film, along with a breakdown of my favorite scenes—check it out on my channel. But be warned: this is not an easy watch.

Kill – The Most Relentless Action Film of the Year

I had heard great things about Kill from film festivals, but I wasn’t prepared for what I experienced. This film is a non-stop action ride, completely relentless from start to finish. At just an hour and a half, it leaves you breathless with its brutal choreography and tight storytelling. This is a game-changer for Indian action cinema.

Stree 2 – Breaking the Sequel Curse

Sequels often struggle to live up to expectations, but Stree 2 delivered. While some may feel it’s not as funny as the first, I found it deeper and more layered. The writing was clever, and the way they flipped Stree’s character and narrative on its head was brilliant. Hats off to Maddock Films for successfully building their horror-comedy universe—something even Hollywood studios have failed at!

Munjya – Another Maddock Hit

Speaking of the Maddock Horror Universe, Munjya is another solid entry. While not as widely talked about as Stree 2, it’s a fun, entertaining ride with a strong performance from Abhay Verma. If you’re into the genre, this one is worth watching.

The Wild Robot – A Heartwarming Animated Delight

One of the few Hollywood films I caught in theaters this year, The Wild Robot is a beautifully crafted animated story about survival, adaptation, and the bond between a parent and child. Watching it feels like receiving a warm hug—it’s heartfelt and touching.

Madgaon Express – The Funniest Film of the Year

Directed by Kunal Khemu, Madgaon Express was an absolute riot. Pratik Gandhi steals the show with his transformation from a timid, medicine-popping guy to someone high on drugs—hilarious! This was easily the funniest film I watched in 2024.

Chamkila – A Musical Masterpiece

Netflix delivered another gem with Chamkila, a film that showcases Diljit Dosanjh’s best performance to date. But while his acting was phenomenal, what stood out for me was Imtiaz Ali’s vision and A.R. Rahman’s extraordinary soundtrack. The way Rahman blended his music with Chamkila’s original sound is pure genius.

Inside Out 2 – The Most Emotional Film of the Year

I knew Inside Out 2 would be special, and it did not disappoint. Pixar has a way of making sequels just as powerful as the originals, and this one was no exception. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that adults will find deeply relatable—expect to cry. A lot.

Dune: Part Two – A Cinematic Spectacle

Visually, Dune: Part Two is the most stunning film of the year. Watching it in IMAX was an experience unlike any other. Denis Villeneuve has created a film meant to be experienced on the biggest screen possible, with breathtaking cinematography and jaw-dropping sequences.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – Action Done Right

George Miller continues to prove why he’s the master of action cinema. I was amazed at how much he still has left to show in the Mad Max universe. Anya Taylor-Joy shines as Furiosa, but the real surprise? Chris Hemsworth! He absolutely nailed his role. This film is relentless, thrilling, and visually spectacular.

Laapataa Ladies – A Joyful, Thought-Provoking Film

This one left me with a smile that lasted long after I left the theater. Kiran Rao crafted a beautifully detailed and heartwarming film that tells its story from the perspective of a small town, rather than the usual metro cities. It’s charming, meaningful, and deeply engaging.

Notable Mentions

These films didn’t make my top list but had aspects that I truly appreciated:

Aavesham – Fahadh Faasil is phenomenal, as always. The film itself may not be perfect, but his performance makes it special.

Pushpa 2 – Complete paisa vasool! Allu Arjun brings his signature swag, while Fahadh Faasil adds depth. Great writing and entertainment.

Deadpool & Wolverine – Hilarious, irreverent, and pure fun—the best kind of Marvel film.

Kalki 2898 AD – A film that starts slow but then delivers an epic story with incredible world-building. The first 40 minutes are rough, but after that, it’s a visual treat.

Merry Christmas – Sriram Raghavan never fails to intrigue. While it’s not as mind-blowing as Andhadhun, it’s still a film worth watching for its moments of brilliance.

Final Thoughts

2024 was an incredible year for cinema, with a mix of powerful storytelling, emotional depth, and mind-blowing action. These were my personal favorites—films that entertained, moved, and amazed me.

What about you? How many of these have you watched? Did I miss out on any of your favorites? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, keep watching, keep loving cinema.
